When did this happen

In January 2005, I led my very trusting son into his foray of pre-school. I had taken him there once or twice before and hehad loved the classroom environment and the other children didn't seem to intimidate him. I was thrilled, I thought the transition into school would be easy - not so! On January 3, I took him to class for the first time and he was not amused. He cried and cried and cried. I too cried when after staying with him for almost an hour, he looked like he would die if I left him there.

I went back 4 hours later and collected my sleeping munchkin and took him home. I did this for the first two weeks of school. I only allowed him to stay for 4 hours 3 days a week. Then I slowly lenghted the time from 4 hours to 5 and 6 and by the time he was there for six weeks, I could actually leave him all day. While he was okay once I was gone, he still cried almost every morning and vomited on many of those mornings.

He had just turned 2 and many of the children were well over 2 and quite used to being in the classroom. It took my munchkin quite a well to get acclimated. Now he loves school and once there makes a beeline to the classroom excited about starting his day. He loves circle time that allows him to sing and listen to stories and he simply can't get enough of arts and crafts time. On WEdnesdays he gets a popsickle which is always a thrill. He really has gotten accostomed to the routine of school.

So imagine my shock when today I drop him off and look around the classroom to see a sea of new faces. Almost all the little ones he started with have moved into the 3 year old class. My little munchkin is now the veteran two year old and the oldest one in his class. He's the one who's talking and leading the other ones around and he's the tallest to boot.

Wow! It's really important to pay attention to every detail of your child because boy don't they grow up fast.
